Stackin' Stylez exists to preserve and promote Boston's unique urban dance culture. We celebrate both our rich history and the evolving present. Integrating these forces invites every participant into a space of growth and transformation, while fostering in a vibrant new era for street style dance in Boston.
THE PROBLEMS
Generational gaps between dancers a dying, stagnant urban dance community in Boston
Misinformation and lack of historical context for the origins of streetstyle movements and dance culture
OUR SOLUTIONS
Honoring the "OG's"
Hosting panels that feature Boston dance veterans. This creates a platform for Boston's original urban dancers to educate, share history and be celebrated for their contribution to the culture
Bring in the Culture Shifters
Inviting talented international and out-of- state dancers to bring their regional dance styles to Boston. These are often once in a lifetime collaborations.
Use a Concept-Based Format
Rather than dance in the styles they are best at, participants are randomly assigned 1 of 10 concepts to compete in at each round of the competition. This evens the playing field and creates a dynamic educational environment to for dancers to connect and exchange in.
Facilitate Connection and Cultural Exchange
Rather than stay isolated in hotels, participants utilize our housing program "StackBnB", where out-of-state guests are housed for free by local participants, in exchange for a skillshare. Participants exchange ideas and networks before they ever hit the dance floor.
